For those getting 'blank' entries when they answer the question

Sorry to do an extra post about this, but enough people are having trouble in the last couple weeks that it seems warranted to have a central post about this for people to comment on.

If you're having the 'my post shows up blank, my answer isn't there' trouble posting your answers to the writer's block question, then please click the lj-spoiler here and answer a few troubleshooting questions, if you have time.

Thanks!

[Questions]

All of these questions refer to the specific times when you've posted an answer to writer's block and it's shown up blank (your answer has been stripped out).

1) What browser and version were you using? (If you can try other browsers, are any of them successful for you -- if so, which ones?)

2) Are you posting the entry using the Rich Text editor or the HTML editor? (We believe the problem has to do with the RTE.)

2a) If your entry editor default setting is to use the RTE, then problem may occur even if you switch to HTML after initially loading in the RTE. If it's not too much trouble, can you switch your entry editor setting to HTML here to be the HTML editor, then try to answer the question again, so that you are only ever working within the HTML editor? Does the answer post successfully when you do this? You can then switch the setting back to RTE to get back to your normal entry mode.

3) If you've used the RTE to post your answers, please trying switching to the HTML editor before posting your entry. (Use the 'Rich Text | HTML' tabs on http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml to switch editors.) If you post using the HTML editor, does it post OK and show your answer?

Thanks!

I've tried to use 3 browers, internet explore, Firefox, and Chrome. All the same blank answers.

I think I only tried HTML/RT? on Firefox.

Google Chrome

Rich Text editor

html works well, unless I tried to use RTE first. Then, it seems to copy/paste, but deletes as I post. I have to start in html and stay in html, so I ignore RTE as much as possible.

I use the latest Chrome and Firefox 11. Both show up blank. I've discovered a work around where you click answer, click enter after the blank space where the box is supposed to be in the rich text editor, go to html editor and click enter after < lj id qotd >, and then post your answer. After you click submit, it will still show up blank but will show up as answered text when you look at all the other user answers.

I am going to piggy back on your response because I do the exact same thing to get mine to post.

I use Firefox, I've had this happen with several versions of FF. I don't use Chrome because it does not get along with LJ at all for me.

But as long as I make sure to go to the html editor and add a space after the writer's block code before typing my answer it works fine.

When your on the mobile version of lj on your phone the question doesn't even show up at all, just the title. :(

1) Firefox 11.0

2) RTE

3)I was using the RTE, but have switched to html for this post. I think.

Welp, here goes...

I miss having the writers block question show up on my home page. Can you put it back the way it was?

1) What browser and version were you using? (If you can try other browsers, are any of them successful for you -- if so, which ones?)

Firefox

2) Are you posting the entry using the Rich Text editor or the HTML editor? (We believe the problem has to do with the RTE.)

HTML

1) I've used both IE and FireFox with the same results.

2) I've tried posting using the RTR and the HTML editor. The HTML editor was used when only half of what I typed came up.

3) Yes, switching to the HTML editor did make it possible to post without a problem.

firefox and that's all I'm going to use
Rich text
my default was HTML

Using Firefox on Windows 7, Rich Text, I can't even type anything in. A bit of code appears for a split second and then is gone.

I just want to be able to answer the questions in the iPhone LJ app. How do I do that?

Using Firefox 7.0.1

Usually I post with Rich Text, but for the latest Writer's Block I choose HTML. And again the answer doesn't show up.

I'll try IE, as soon as I remember the password for my LJ -.-

For everyone who still gets blanks - try posting with HTML AND disabling Auto-Formatting.

Worked twice for me, with Firefox.

This worked for me, too. Thanks!

1) I tried using IE9, Firefox, and Chrome

2) It used to happen to me with RTE, but I have since only used HTML editor and it still happens

3) The last time I tried to answer WB, I tried switching from RTE to HTML and back again, but it still made my answer come up blank. One time, instead of the answer coming up blank, the WB question didn't ever show up

Can you fix this? Even if some people get it to work with HTML editor, what's the point of having an RTE you can't use?

1) I've been using the newest version of Chrome.

2) It's happened using both RTE and HTML.

3) It seems to be happening for me even if I switch from RTE to HTML. I prefer the RTE myself.

It's happened to me several times.
I use firefox, and it's generally the RTE setting that does it. I have tried to HTML and still, I have a problem..

:(

1) Google Chrome (my laptop has limited disk space, and I don't want to clog it with installing a bunch of other browsers)

2) Typically, I use the RTE for posting.

3) If I simply switch from the RTE to HTML, it still seems to draw a blank. Frankly, because I'm so bad at stuff like this, I don't go fiddle with my settings, partly also because I believe/hope this problem should be able to be fixed without requiring users to change their settings for one single post, the undo these settings changes. It's probably not too time-consuming, but it does seem like an unnecessary hassle to me. I miss the days when Writer's Block could be answered with the RTE... :(
